England vs Egypt

March 3, 2010 by england odds · 1 Comment

Hi,

This is the first post of the new look www.EnglandOdds.com!

Please bear with us for a while though, because there are many more changes to go yet.  We just wanted to get up and running quickly, a bit like we hope for the England vs Egypt football friendly tonight at Wembley.  Just imagine the embarassment if we don’t win!

Hopefully the Wembley pitch tonight will have improved, after the well publicised comments that James Milner made to the media following Aston Villa’s loss to Manchester United in the Carling Cup final last week.  I still can’t quite believe that Vidic wasn’t sent off, or at least given a yellow in the first few minutes, after he gave away the penalty.  It would have probably made the game a lot fairer if he had gone.  Maybe Referees are a little more lenient with red cards, when it comes to the important matches, but it seemed an easy decision to make. But then I’m not a referee and have no desire to be.  It’s a tough job, with a lot of responsiblity when things go wrong!

Going back to tonights action, the best odds you seem to be able to get on England to win in 90 minutes (via Oddschecker) are with Bet365 at 2/5. To see this, click on the banner below:

 England vs Egypt

While these are obviously low odds, we are playing Egypt, who you would think we should beat.  Egypt aren’t a million miles away from us in the FIFA World Rankings as they’re in 17th place versus our 8th (as at 03 Mar 2010).  I’m very grateful that we are in the top 8 though, as it just put us the top seeded group for South Africa this year!

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the England game tonight.

Cheers,

Nick

Well it was a very bad first half ending 1-0, but the boys turned it around in the second half to win 3-1. I was glad I didn’t go to the game for the first half, but would have been happy overall.

I’ve never been a great fan of Crouch, but he comes up with the goals time and time again for England. Going against how a lot of teams play balls towards Crouch, he seems to be better when he doesn’t get a long ball onto his head in my opinion (which doesn’t count for much!). Defoe continues to be unconvincing for me as he needs too many chances, but Rooney always seems to have the fighting ability required when heads go down.

What really gets to me more than anything is that Terry was getting booed. What’s the point? The press stirred it all up for a month in the first place and then everyone joins on the bandwagon. How does it help the team? What good is it going to do to boo Terry in what is one of only 2 or 3 home warm-up games before the World Cup starts? It’s like a portion of the England Fans do not want us to do well and why do they bother supporting us at all if that’s how they feel? If Terry isn’t in the squad who do you want instead? Personally I was happy to see Leighton Baines at left back, as a Toffee supporter, and his performance was good but nothing outstanding going forward like Ashley Cole could bring to the team.

Before the game, I underestimated Egypt a lot. They’ve won the last 3 African Nations tournaments and clearly have a lot to offer going forward, especially with the movement of Mohamed Zidan from Borussia Dortmund. Playing Egypt today, provides England with a good sampling of a test of what we may face with the African teams.

Although 12 weeks away, I’m looking forward to the next Wembley test where we are likely to face Mexico at the end of May. If you want to buy England tickets, it is relatively easy but make sure you look at the http://www.TheFA.com website to find out how to buy them, or you can see a previous article I wrote on this at How to Buy England Football Tickets.

Anyway, enough ranting for now. It’s great that we can come from behind, but we need to show much more energy and purpose at the start of games to prevent the situation from happening in the first place.

    Bring on South Africa!
